Coconut Milk, a wonderful gluten free milk alternative, can be found today pretty much everywhere you look in your local grocery store. Usually found in either the “milk” section or in the natural food refrigerated section, it is widely available.
And if you haven’t crossed paths with this delicious dairy alternative, either one of two things will happen from this point on:
1) It will be available in your area shortly
2) Because you are now going to be made more aware of what it is, it will literally pop out at you while you internally say to yourself “Ohhhhhh! THAT is the milk product that gluten free website talked about!”
If this happens, you are “welcome”! I say that because once you try it, you will be better educated for having done so….at least in my measly opinion.
So, what makes it such a great choice for your active, gluten and dairy free lifestyle?
Two main factors will make the answer more apparent for you.
THE HEALTH BENEFITS
Right off the bat, it is high in Antioxidants!
That is great because our bodies need antioxidants to stay healthy and to function at our optimum wellness. Not to mention free radicals! They are much to be desired in our systems.
Free radicals help the body to fight those nasty toxins, viruses, and bacteria.
What a bonus!!
A misconception connected with coconut milk is that it is high in fat, and that is true to a point.
Yes, it is high in fat!
But what kind of fat is it?
Certainly not the same fat found in fast food cheeseburgers or other junk foods.
It is GOOD Fat!
It is the kind of fat that helps you be heart healthy.
It is the non-trans fatty acid kind which helps to lower your risk of heart disease by making it less likely to clog your arteries, unlike cow’s milk.
Now, THAT is what I’m talkin about!
And we can’t forget the high content of vitamins and minerals that this non dairy milk contains.
Short list of vitamins and minerals
With all these health benefits, can it really tickle your taste palate?
I am going to keep this short and sweet…did I say sweet?
According to your personal taste bud inclination, you may or may not decide that coconut milk is for you, however, one cannot deny that this gluten free milk substitute is creamy and velvety in texture together with a slightly naturally sweet flavor.
This makes for a very nice flavor, for those who like coconut, in your smoothies and for a simple “glass of milk”.
The thicker consistency milk, found in the canned variety, are excellent and widely used in many tropical cooking dishes all the way from the outskirts of Asia to the Pacific Islands. Nice!
So, if you like coconut, you will love its milk.
In conclusion, there are so many other reasons that make coconut milk a prize in your fridge but explaining them all in this article would become long winded and lose its purpose of providing you enough info to intrigue you.
Wouldn’t you agree?
So we will leave it at this for the moment: Coconut Milk is at least WORTH A TRY!
Why not make it a part of your gluten and dairy free diet today?
