Mexican Chocolate Banana Smoothie? Really??

When you think of Mexican anything when it comes to food, what comes to your mind…Hot Chilies maybe?

Personally, I can’t get enough Mexican food and the more traditional and authentic, the better. The rich aromas of this cultural food brings to me white sand beaches and the figurative taste of the good life. Although, I am from a different Latino origin, Dominican Republic, I can't help but to feel intrinsically attached to the savor of the Mexican culture. Our roots run deep in connection, I guess.

So when I was exposed to this Mexican smoothie, I just had to share...

I am here to tell you that this Mexican treat is wonderful.

I came across this smoothie within the pages of a much loved smoothie book that I own entitled ‘Supercharge your Immune System-100 ways to Help your body fight illness-One glass at a time’ by Ellen Brown.

Not only is it good, it is wonderful for you!

The history behind this smoothie comes from the fact that the Mexican culture has come to appreciate the comforting taste of hot chocolate. So this recipe has been adapted to take on the flavor of this Spanish treat. Less the heat in temperature or spice…unless you would like to add a little cayenne pepper…but that is totally up to you.

What makes this smoothie healthy for you is the cup full of nutrients within. We know that almonds have wonderful benefits such as having a high content of vitamin E, which help your body to metabolize fatty acids all the while cinnamon helps in preventing the rise of blood sugar.

Here is the recipe:

(Mexican) Chocolate Banana Smoothie

1 cup Chocolate soymilk

½ cup silken tofu

1 cup shelled Almonds

½ cup chopped dark chocolate

2 Tbsp. flaxseed oil

½ tsp. ground cinnamon

2 cups banana slices, frozen

2 Tbsp. grated chocolate for garnish (optional)

Combine soymilk, tofu, almonds, chocolate, flaxseed oil, and cinnamon in a blender. Blend on high speed for 45 seconds or until mixture is smooth. Serve immediately adding garnish if you so choose.

To make it a little spicy, why not add cayenne pepper to the garnish. May add a whole new dimension…but then again that is only optional.

If you do, feel free to share below how you enjoyed it.
